There's a new app on the market that allows Kiwi drivers to compete with friends, family, colleagues, and other motorists for the title of safest driver.
The SmartDriver smartphone app, launched by Tower Insurance, has been updated, allowing users to create public and private group leaderboards. Tower spokesman Mark Savage said the new app would settle arguments among couples debating who is the better driver.
The app monitors driving behaviour, offering lower insurance premiums based on driver performance. By collecting basic driving information such as trip duration, distance, braking and acceleration, it builds an understanding of driving behaviour and risk. Each journey produces a trip summary and safe driving tips to help motorists improve their driving behaviour.
If the driver's data stacks up, Tower can can reduce motor vehicle premiums accordingly.
